ST. JOHN | Brenda Fanno’s fifth-grade class at St. John the Evangelist School recently gathered around the school’s advent wreath to take the time to remember that the holiday is about Jesus Christ. The entire student body took time during advent to stop at the wreath and prepare their hearts for Christmas Day. To remind the students of the reason for the season, the school has been busy helping with several community projects, including two food drives benefiting 40 families. The students also participated in the 17th annual Caps for Kids project, collecting hats, mittens and scarves. The school also collected new and like-new toys to share with children at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. SJE teachers and staff "adopted" two needy families and purchased clothes and toys to make their Christmas a little brighter.
