TEACHER OF EXCELLENCE: GlenEva Dunham, Kindergarten, Beveridge Elementary School, Gary, Indiana

Why GlenEva Teaches:

“I enjoy what I do. I like the little ones because you always see the growth, those little light bulbs going on. They’re busy, they’re noisy and I like it. I have one son and he always went to school with me, he’s a senior in college now at Indiana State. You have got to be patient, to treat the kids like I would treat my own son. You have to love what you do and love making a difference.”

About GlenEva Dunham:

Graduate of Lew Wallace High School. Bachelor degree from Purdue University West Lafayette. Active in the teacher’s union, PTA and leading field trips. Also coached girls’ basketball. Enjoys “going to the grocery store and seeing the kids I taught, going to church and seeing the kids I taught.”

Experience:

Teacher for 33 years, with 28 years in Kindergarten. Background in home economics and social work, but obtained her license for early childhood teaching when she realized that children need “more help than adults.”
