Chamber sponsors chili challenge

MUNSTER | The second annual Touchdown Chili Challenge Cook-off is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Cost is $10 to sample 15 chili recipes prepared by community leaders.

Program covers role of music in WWll

CROWN POINT | John Ban, retired teacher and professor presents Swinging and Singing: The Magic of Music in World War II in a program from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St. It discusses how music helped win the war for the Allies. The program is free.

Comedy opens to four-day run

HAMMOND | The Hammond Academy of the Performing Arts at Morton High School, 6915 Grand Ave., opens its 2014-15 season with a romantic comedy about the trials and tribulations of love in a time of frostbite. "Almost, Main. Shows are at 7 p.m tonight, Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students and will be available at the door.

Monster Dash hits Munster streets

MUNSTER | The Munster Parks and Recreation Department hosts the Monster Dash 5K from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Centennial Park, 900 N. Centennial Drive. The run begins on Calumet Avenue, goes through Munster subdivisions and concludes at Centennial Park. Refreshments will be served before and after the race. Registration is $30. Coffee with a Cop heads to McDonald's

MUNSTER | The Munster Police Department hosts it Coffee with a Cop from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at McDonald's, 515 Ridge Road. Munster Police officers, including Chief Steve Scheckel, to meet residents.

Superheros, princesses share breakfast

SCHERERVILLE | The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department hosts a Superhero/Princess Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon at the Schererville Community Center, 500 E. Joliet St. A full breakfast is served; children will meet their favorite princesses and superheroes and have an opportunity to get an autograph. Rotary holds run, Blues, Brews & BBQ

CROWN POINT | The Crown Point Rotary Club will host a 5K and Fun Run starting and ending at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Chefs offer samples at Kitchen Tour

CROWN POINT | Eight area chefs offer a taste of their favorite menu items in the Kitchen Tour and Tasting from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the Maki Ballroom at Old Lake County Courthouse. Participating chefs represent Asparagus, Carmine's, Center for Visual and Performing Arts, Lighthouse, Lucrezia, Miller Bakery Cafe, Tommy B's, and Youche Country Club with desserts prepared by the many chefs of the NWI chapter of the American Culinary Federation.It includes a wine tasting.
