GARY — A 25-year-old Griffith man was killed and four other people were injured from gunshot wounds early Sunday morning.

Dvontai Wright was pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m., according to a press release from the Lake County coroner's office.

The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Grant Street, the release states.

The Gary Police Department responded to a call with active shooters, according to a release from Gary police Lt. Dawn Westerfield. During the incident numerous shots were fired and five individuals suffered gunshot wounds. Wright was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

The Gary Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Department, the Lake Metro Homicide Unit, the Gary Fire Department/EMS are also involved in the investigation.
