GARY — At least two people were injured and a semi lost a coil in four separate crashes Thursday morning on the Borman Expressway, Indiana State Police said.

Two people were taken to hospitals after the first crash, about 4:55 a.m. near Indianapolis Boulevard, involving two cars and a semitrailer, Indiana State Police said.

Two semis crashed about 5:35 a.m., and one of them lost a coil near Kennedy Avenue, police said.

A third crash about 6:45 a.m. near Cline Avenue involved two cars.

A fourth crash about 7:15 a.m. near Burr Street also involved two vehicles, police said.

No injuries were reported in the crashes near Kennedy Avenue and Cline Avenue. Police said it was still unclear if any injures were reported in the crash near Burr Street.

Traffic on westbound Interstate 80/94 was backed up for hours because of the crashes, sometimes stretching to just east of the Broadway exit, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation's TrafficWise website.
