Reading to the dogs

Dog owner Barbara Phelps watches as Dylan Clemons, 9, reads to her Power Paws dog, “Abby,” during an earlier Reading to the Dogs program at the Crown Point Community Library. The library, 122 N. Main St., invites school-age children to improve their reading skills by reading out out to a dog at 3 p.m. Saturday, or 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Winfield Branch Library, 10645 Randolph St. Children sign up at the Youth Service Desk and select a book to read to a furry friend. Animals are ideal reading companions because they create a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment. For more information, call Paula Newcom at (219) 306-8069.
