MERRILLVILLE — An 82-year-old woman died Monday after a driver struck her as she rode a mobility scooter along Broadway, police said.
Elizabeth Camplan, of Merrillville, was driving the scooter at about 8:37 a.m. north in the 9200 block of Broadway when she was struck by a woman driving a white Ford SUV, Detective Sgt. Nate Dillahunty said.
Camplan was taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The Ford's driver, who stopped, also was taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus for an unknown medical reason. Police did not immediately have information about the driver's age and residence.
Camplan might have been traveling to a Speedway in the area, police said.
The northbound lanes of Broadway were shut down for about three hours for the crash investigation, which is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Dillahunty at 219-648-2264.
