MICHIGAN CITY | Advancing Christ Kingdom Ministries Michigan City is preparing for its fourth annual feeding the multitudes drive, where they have given away close to 300 turkeys each year.
The event is accompanied with a spoken word event to boost donations and to get the community engaged for the holiday season.
The turkey give away will take place at 10 a.m. today at 1401 ½ E Michigan Blvd. The food bank is open during this season from 8 to 10 a.m. every Wednesday.
Dierre Glenn, senior pastor of ACKM-MC said this is a season where the church’s help is most needed in the community. He has asked church members along with outside agencies to participate in the event.
“I believe this event shines a light onto the various needs of the community,” Glenn said.
The food bank at the ministry not only gives donations of food through out the year, but also serves as a resource center for individuals in need.
This is a busy season for the food bank as many are without work, paying high utility bills and dealing with other troubling issues.
The only requirement to receive food is that you must have a state issued license or identification to provide proof of being a resident of Michigan City.
The church will also host a spoken word event at 6 p.m. Saturday which will feature local and Chicago artist. Attendees are asked to bring a donation of canned goods for admittance.
