Michigan City residents under boil advisory after water main repair

Crews from the water department worked for more than 30 hours to repair the broken water main near the Blind Pig Tavern and Grill, located at 3103 E. US 12. Department of Water Works Superintendent Chris Johnsen advised that all customers impacted are under a 24-hour boil water advisory.

"If you're water has been off, open a cold water faucet," Johnsen said. "There might be some air in the line, so it may look a little cloudy at first. Just let that cold water run."

Johnsen recommends boiling water for five minutes before consumption. Customers can use water for cleaning, bathing and other activities with no concern, he said.

As of 12 p.m. Friday, the water department is flushing the system to ensure the water is clean, and to remove air from the line.
