LAPORTE COUNTY — A semitrailer carrying 44,000 pounds of Nutella crashed on Interstate 94 late Monday, police say.

The semi's driver, Chuhar Singh, was traveling west about 9:30 p.m. when a car in front of him stopped abruptly. He slammed on his brakes in response.

Singh, who was uninjured, then lost control of the truck, veering off the road before coming across all westbound lanes and striking a concrete barrier. This caused the semi to overturn and spill 150 gallons of diesel gas.

Police said he disabled truck was moved to the shoulder, where it will be offloaded sometime Tuesday.
