A man was robbed outside the LaSalle Hotel Saturday afternoon in downtown Hammond.
Stacey M. Johnson, Sr., a 49-year-old Merrillville resident, was arrested on a felony charge of level five robbery. Police say he engaged in a strong arm robbery at about 4 p.m. Saturday by pushing a victim up against the wall and grabbing his wallet outside the hotel along Hammond's main thoroughfare.
Johnson took money from the wallet and fled on foot, according to police. After getting a description from the victim, officers found Johnson a little more than an hour later a few blocks south of the hotel by the Franciscan Health Hammond Hospital, 5454 Hohman Avenue.
If convicted of the preliminary charge, he could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
He was arrested and taken to the Lake County County Jail in Crown Point, where he's being held on a $3,000 bond.
