SCHERERVILLE, IN - Sharon Walker, age 82, of Schererville, passed away surrounded by her family on February 11, 2020. She is survived by her loving sons: William (Pam) Walker and Michael (Denise) Walker; loving grandchildren: William Walker Jr., Sara (Jason) Quanstrom, Michael Walker Jr., Samantha (Dustin) Eisele, Eric Walker, and Katherine Walker; great granddaughters: Kennedy and Camryn Quanstrom. Sharon enjoyed gardening, painting, and owning and running the Maple Manor apartment buildings.

LANSING, IL - Edwin W. Snyder, age 75, of Lansing, IL passed away February 10, 2020. He is survived by his mother: Shirley B. Snyder of Hartwell, GA; daughter: Dawn (Brian) M. Godsey of Valparaiso, IN; daughter: Sandra (James) A. Smith of Hartwell, GA; son: Paul (Cynthia) W. Snyder of Freedom, WI; beloved companion: Leona Larson of Lansing, IL; two grandchildren: Glen Bishop and Megan Bishop; and one great grandchild: Olivia Bishop. He was preceded in death by wife: Ruth O'Hara; father: Warren Snyder; brother: Paul W. Snyder; and sister: Geraldine Struppa.
Edwin was happily retired, having formerly worked for Roadway Express as a truck driver; he was a proud member of the Teamsters Locals 705 and 710. Edwin was an avid sports fan; following the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and the Notre Dame fighting Irish.

SCHERERVILLE, IN - Heidi Zima (nee Sencaj), age 75 of Schererville, known fondly to many as "Oma", passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Heidi was the beloved devoted wife of Robert Zima; loving devoted mother to Anthony (Terry) Clark, Ramona (Mark) Rogers, Donna Clark, and Sandy (Jimmy) Lessentine; Oma to Tiffany and Jeremy (Bethany) Wilson; Amber (Ryan) O'Connell; Marissa Clark-DeButch (Kody Elder); Kevin, Christopher, Kasseidi, Kailey, Casey Lessentine; Jarred (Cayla) Ebeltoft; Jessica, Ashley Clark; Jodi (Ryan) Phelps; Michael (Becky) and Kevin (Kristen) McFadden. Heidi was the loving Ur Oma/Oma-Oma to Jaden, Aaliyah, Sariyah, Mariyah Browder; Chase, Harper Ebeltoft; Isaiah Zinkiewitz; Mason, Molly, Olivia Wilson; Caden, Nolan, Gavin Robert O'Connell; Chase Elder; Bryson Harville; Brooklyn Phelps; and Conner, Tommy, Kooper, Kole McFadden. Heidi had many wonderful nieces and nephews: Monica (Roger) Baldwin; Andy, Garet, Blake, Jillian Sencaj and Dale (Val) DeVries.
Heidi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; parents: Andy (Andrija) and Vera Sencaj; brother, Mato Sencaj, sister, Christel Renate Burgwald, and siblings Dieter, Gunter and Milka Sencaj, whom passed away in Germany.
Heidi was born in Hamburg, Germany and came to America when she was only six. She became a long-time resident of Lake County, IN. The family loved the States and became proud American citizens, something she spoke of with much pride. She wrote a book for her kids for Christmas of 2017, so they would know what life was like for her and the family in the old country and the new country. It was a true legacy of love for them. She was a 28 year member of the Schererville Central Lions Club, and a co-founder of the Schererville Historical Society: past secretary. She worked for the town of Schererville for many years, as well as at Children's Therapy Plus in Crown Point. She retired from Crete-Monee H.S. in Crete, IL.
She loved riding with her hubby, Bob (Rev), on his Harley on road trips. She loved going to plays and comedy clubs with her kids, enjoyed having lots of laughs; reading and going to her grandkids activities and games. She loved life; had a wonderful sense of humor and kept us all together. She never met a stranger. Everyone that touched her life made her a better person, and visa-versa. She had wonderful friends and enjoyed her ladies in her Deutsche Kaffe Klatsch. Heidi lived for her children, husband, family and friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest and she always thought she was truly blessed! She would remind us that "Every beat of your heart, I am with you-always and forever."

KOUTS, IN - Turila "Trilly" Walsh, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at her home in Kouts. She was born May 21, 1951, in Hammond to Edward and Theresa (Adams) Cole and graduated from Hammond Tech High School. Music captured Trilly's heart at an early age, and by age 6 she began performing with her brother and sister at regional events. Through her teens, Trilly kept singing and playing banjo, guitar and mandolin. Her career thrived as a lead musician with "Trilly and the Capers" and "The Trilly Cole Band" with lengthy stints in Nashville, Las Vegas and throughout Iowa. Her effervescent personality and talent endeared her to her fans. After retiring from full time entertaining she returned to her beloved Kouts, working several years at Wal-Mart as well as playing her banjo at several nursing homes throughout the Calumet Region.
Trilly is survived by her brother, Edward "Skip" Cole of Crown Point; aunt, Helen Kildsig; and cousins: Barbara and Herb Cain, Pat and Doug Beebe, Kurt and Nikki Adams, Katherine "Kitty" Pullins, and Harold "Bud" and Beverly Lauderback. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Walsh, her parents and sister, Judy Cole.

MERRILLVILLE, IN - Larry H. Spisak, age 92, of Merrillville, passed away February 13, 2020. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a devoted usher at St. Bridget Catholic Church, and built the new altar for the church.
Larry was a published photographer and enjoyed woodworking. He will be greatly missed.

SCHERERVILLE, IN - Joseph A. Evanich "Smokey Joe" age 89, of Schererville formerly of Hessville, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Cecelia Evanich (nee Hofirek); children, Cathy (Ken) Mertens, Philip Evanich, Connie (Joseph) Goysich, Bob (Bridget)Evanich and Laura Evanich; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Allison (Nick), Emily, Betsy, Katie, Adam and Joanna; five great grandchildren; sister in law, Mary Ann(late, John) Evanich and Helen (Dan)Brnicky and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Joseph was born and raised in Whiting and graduated in 1948 from Whiting High School. He was a Navy Veteran who served in Korean War. Joseph retired from Standard Oil in Whiting. He was a Past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus "St. Alfred Council" #4933 of Hessville. He enjoyed coaching little league and basketball in Hessville. He was a long-time parishioner of Saint Michaels Church in Schererville and was a member of the Holy Name Society at OLPH. He loved fishing and watching old westerns on TV. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed.

HIGHLAND, IN - Donald Kucer, age 83, of Highland, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020. He is survived by his four children Ed (Nicki) Kucer, Tom Kucer, Ron Kucer, and Denise (Tom) Beck. Four grandchildren Nathan (fiance Leah) Jacobs, Haley Jacobs, Cory Jacobs and Jenna Beck; and several nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary and daughter Joann; parents Andrew and Emily Kucer.
Donald was a member of St Mary Catholic Church in Griffith. He has done many things in his life but his passion was being on the baseball/softball field. From coaching his children to umpiring. He loved the many years of umping adult softball throughout the area. But most of all umping his children's games at Sharp Field with Rose by his side keeping score. He stuck around long enough to ump his grandson's games. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

DYER, IN - Vick Brent of Dyer, passed away on Saturday February 8, 2020 at the age of 72. He was surrounded by his loved ones following a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carolyn (Kukta) Brent; loving sons: Scott and Jeff Brent; and cherished grandsons: Tyler and Justin Brent. He was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Violette Brent and sister: Paulette (Popovich) Mathena. Vick was born and raised in Highland, IN and graduated from Highland High School in 1965. He then earned his Bachelors in Education and Masters in Special Education from Chicago State University. Vick taught in the Chicago public school system for 12 years before entering the field of real estate; this became his passion for the next 35 years along with being a general contractor. He also ventured in the retail market by owning and operating a True Value hardware store. Vick loved to give back to the community thru his numerous years devoted to the game of baseball. He coached/managed and applied his teaching skills to mold young minds and had fun doing it. The Twins, Indians, and Expos gave him many years of joy and camaraderie. Vick loved to have pool parties where everyone could just be a kid. He especially enjoyed the holidays and entertaining his family with his piano sing-a-longs and goofy grab bag gifts. Vick was a fun-loving guy with a "unique" sense of humor; sarcasm was his tool to make people laugh.

ROUND LAKE, IL - Robert Charles Kuhn, age 94, of Round Lake, IL passed away on January 9th 2020 at Generations Oakton Pavilion in Des Plaines, IL.
He was born in Gary, Indiana on November 22, 1925 to the late Albert Kuhn and Johanna Martha (Laderer) Kuhn. He grew up in Gary, IN and graduated from Tolleston High School. When he completed high school, he served in the United States Navy in WW2 and served as a Pharmacists Mate Third Class. After his service to our country, he attended Valparaiso University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked as a Benefits Supervisor at US Steel in Gary Indiana until his retirement in 1984. He loved his family more than anything. His happiest moments were preparing Sunday dinners for his family and spending time with his collies. He loved his German heritage and working with genealogy to trace his family origins in southern Germany. He loved visiting Germany as often as he could to visit friends and family. He was a treasured friend and always wanted to help others.Robert was preceded in death by his wife Vera (Lenburg) Kuhn, his twin sons Michael Kuhn and Thomas Kuhn, great granddaughter Zoe Daege and grandson in law Kevin Vawter.
He is survived by his sisters Shirley Kuhn and Joan Johnston, his daughters Kathy Daege (Terry Daege), Mary Kuhn (Theresa Castino), his grandchildren Mikell Vawter, Erin Daege and Jason Daege and his great grand children Jazmynne Vawter, Cheyenne Daege and Riley Vawter and many cousins nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held graveside on April 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at McCool Cemetery with a luncheon following the service.

MICHIGAN CITY, IN - Jerry Michael Snyder Sr., 60, of Michigan City, passed away unexpectedly at 7:04 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Franciscan Health Hospital.
He was born November 28, 1959, in Calumet City, IL, to Raymond and Norma Jean (Jernigan) Snyder.
Jerry honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a long-time resident of Whiting, IN. Jerry was a simple man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
On November 5, 1979, in Houston, TX, he married his soulmate, Patricia (Finley) Snyder, who preceded him in death August 23, 2017.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Johnny, Joe and Lance Snyder; infant brother, David Wayne Snyder; and one niece, Carrie Snyder.
Surviving are his four beautiful children, Jerry Snyder Jr. of Lowell, Valerie (David) Nazimek of Portage, Tina Urban of Mississippi and Charles Snyder of Michigan City; one brother, Norman Snyder of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Zachary, Michael, Lucas, Victoria, Aiden and McKenzie; aunt, Bessie Jernigan; and cousin, JoAnne (Ernie) Newman.
