CROWN POINT, IN - Lois Dreier age 80, passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving husband at her home in Crown Point Tuesday, November 5th after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Lois was born August 2, 1939 in Trenton, NJ and moved with her family to Hebron, Indiana in 1984 and later to Crown Point. Lois was known for her beautiful smile and contagious laugh. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lois is survived by her husband of 58 years, Franz K. Dreier, five children and five grandchildren.

VALPARAISO, IN - Richard L. Church, Jr., 74, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019. He was born September 6, 1945 in Valparaiso to Richard and Mary Lou (Biggs) Sr. and graduated from Valparaiso High School. Richard made his career for more than the past 25 years as a Sales Representative with Senco Products. He was a member of First Christian Church DOC in Valparaiso. Richard found a heart-warming satisfaction the past 12 years teaching water color painting at Chesterton Art Center. Golfing with his long-time friends provided bonding that warms the heart in a different manner.
On December 12, 1964 he married Sandra Butterfield who survives along with their daughters, Kimberly (Thomas) Mitchell of Valparaiso and Shannon (Timothy) Clark of Charlotte, NC, sister, Carolyn (Richard) Hudgins of Wheatfield and grandchildren: Madison and Mason Mitchell and Cameron, Carrington and Caiden Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Terry and Steve Church.

LaPORTE, IN - Doris Ann Hurni, 90, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at VNA of NWI Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
Doris was born on June 6, 1929 in Walkerton, IN, to Kenneth E.and Dorothy A. (Bradford) Hostetler.
On August 20, 1949 at the First Christian Church in La Porte, IN, she married Maurice LeRoy Hurni who preceded her in death on May 1, 2019. Also surviving are her beloved children, David A. (Ann) Hurni of Westville, Michael J. Hurni of La Porte, Susan G. (Harold) Barr of La Porte, and Ken P. (Julie) Hurni of Union Mills; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Hurni of Valparaiso; seven grandchildren, Edward (Kelly) Hurni, Kevin (Rebecca) Hurni, Sarah Romancheck, Douglas (Jess) Hurni, Erin (Breyon) Wilson, Jane Barr, and Ben Barr; 14 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Joyce Mead of Valparaiso; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents; husband; son, Steven L. Hurni; and brother, Robert L Hostetler.
Doris was a clerk at the Porter County Airport, a secretary at First Christian Church, and also worked at the Union Mills Farm Bureau Co-Op. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she served in the evening circle. Doris enjoyed being of service to other people and spending time with family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at CUTLER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER with Pastor Gretchen Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Union Mills Cemetery.

VALPARAISO, IN - Lisa Jane (Carroll) Mueller, age 60 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away November 4, 2019. Lisa was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Thomas Edward Mueller of Granite City, IL who passed away in 2017, and her parents Jane (nee Robertson) and Graham M. Carroll, both of Atlantic City, NJ. She is survived by her sons, Michael Edward and Samuel Edward Mueller, both of Valparaiso. She is also survived by brothers: Michael (Kathy) Carroll of Shrewsbury, NJ; Mark (Carol) Carroll of St. Louis, MO; and Matthew (Sally) Carroll of Newburgh, IN. She was the loving aunt of nephews William, Daniel, Graham and George; nieces Rebecca (Brian) and Audrey, and great nephew Henry.
Lisa was born on June 30, 1959 in Bucks County, PA. Her family moved to Valparaiso in 1962 where her father worked at the newly constructed Midwest Steel. The family later moved to the Pittsburgh, PA area in 1968 where she attended Upper St. Clair High School. In 1976, her family moved to the St. Louis, MO area where Lisa graduated from Horton Watkins High school in Ladue in 1977. Lisa then attended the University of Missouri-Rolla, from which she graduated Cum Laude in 1981 with a BS degree in metallurgical engineering. It was at UMR where Lisa met her future husband Tom. After graduation, Lisa was hired by Bethlehem Steel in their noted "Loop" management program and worked for many years at the Burns Harbor plant. Lisa and Tom were married September 10, 1983. She was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Lisa greatly enjoyed traveling with her family and especially the annual trips to Ocean City, New Jersey. She loved her home in Valparaiso and her neighbors, who were greatly supportive as she faced health issues over the last few years.

Hosea "Pete" Hudson" (87), former Indiana Commissioner of Insurance under Gov. Otis Bowen and President/CEO of Monroe Guaranty died at home November 6, 2019.
Pete served in the U.S. Navy. Earning a degree from the University of Minnesota, he moved to Rensselear (1957). He worked at the Jackson Funeral Home.
In 1960 he moved to Kouts and started The Hudson Company with three locations. Pete was an active county leader and created several civic organizations. He moved to Zionsville in 1977.
Pete served as IN Insurance Commissioner (1975-1981). He was president of Monroe Guaranty Insurance (1983-2001) until he sold it and retired.
In 2004, Pete married Karen Sue Sweeney. He is survived by his wife; two siblings, five biological children; three step-children: 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Michael, his first wife, Henrietta, and seven siblings.

VALPARAISO, IN - James Hillis Whalls, 90 of Valparaiso, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was born December 12, 1928 in Rodney, Ontario, Canada to the late Frank and Nellie Whalls and move to the United States in 1949. In 1951 James married JoAnne D. Yaros, and they had three daughters, Darlene (Kim) Edmonds, Cherrie Luke, and Marsha (John) Sanders. In 1961 James married JoAnn Maze who had three children, Marianne (Ronald Koselke) Whitcomb, Joseph Silhavy, and Vicky (Ross) Andrews. Together they had 2 daughters, Judy (John) Mekola and Tammy (Michael) Csmereka. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Whalls; and grandson, Michael Whitcomb.

VALPARAISO, IN - Geraldine "Geri" McDaniel, 91 of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019. She was born September 10, 1928 in Cullman, AL to Zeus and Louise (Wenzel) Bieker. Geri's primary job was taking care of her family, but she had many business and fundraising interests throughout her life. She was very involved in Catholic Relief Services, where she took in Vietnamese children during the conflict, the American Cancer Society, the Art Barn, and various volunteering opportunities in the community. Geri enjoyed golfing, and painting with acrylic paints and water colors. She will be remembered as a social butterfly, who was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Geri will be dearly missed.
In August of 1947 in Rockford, IL, Geri married Wayne McDaniel, who preceded her in death in 1979. She is survived by their children: Britt McDaniel of Champaign, IL, Shirley McDaniel of Valparaiso, Scott McDaniel of Champaign, IL; granddaughter, Deana (Tim) McAuliffe; great-grandchildren: Madeline, Timmy, and Joey. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Jeffrey McDaniel, two brothers and two sisters.

Marion (Bacon) Quint was born November 4, 1927, in Jacksonville, IL, to Charles and Elizabeth Bacon. She spent most of her life in Lake County, IN, where she married Leo P. Quint in 1951.
Marion was very active in her community, serving as PTA president, Girl Scout leader, United Methodist Women president, Church Women United board member and Calumet District Executive Board member. She taught adult and children's Sunday School for 30 years and chaired many Methodist Church committees at Hyde Park and Griffith United Methodist Churches. She moved to Montgomery County in 2014.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Karen Quint, and Karen's husband David Small; by her daughter, Peggy Lohorn; and by her grandchildren, Beau (Kelly) Priebe, Ashley Kendricks, Kelley (Beth) Simpkins, Lee Small, Kerry Lohorn and Brett Small; and her great-grandchildren Will, Claire, Blake, Kory, Michael and Greyson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Jeffrey; her son-in-law Michael Lohorn; and her siblings, Eloise Hlodnicki, Phyllis Hedges, Wm. (Mort) Bacon and Harold Bacon.
Marion supported her daughters in a way that never questioned the fact that women could succeed in any endeavor. Her strength, determination and faith will remain a legacy to her loved ones. A family church memorial service will be held at a later date.

CROWN POINT, IN - Harold Reid, age 91, of Crown Point, passed away on November 5, 2019, at Crown Point Christian Village surrounded by many loving family members. He was a proud Navy veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge from the service, Harold met and married the love of his life Patricia Ann Brown, and together they raised their family of five children as lifelong residents of Crown Point. Harold was a lifelong salesman and sales supervisor for several food brokerage and beverage firms serving the local retail food community. Harold's sales skills and "Gift of Gab" made him a well-respected top performer in his industry. Throughout his life, Harold most enjoyed family gatherings, cook-outs, and special occasions. Family accomplishments were most important to him.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Mary Reid; loving wife of 68 years Patricia Ann. HOBART, IN - Royce A. Peterson, age 74, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He was born in Gary, IN on October 1, 1945 to the late Lynn and Grace (nee Nelson) Peterson. Royce retired from Purdue Calumet where he worked as the assistant manager of purchasing. He enjoyed home remodeling, golfing, and traveling. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Royce is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherry (nee Oswald) Peterson of Hobart; children, Bryan (Harthe) Peterson of New Lenox, IL, Marcy Peterson of Lisle, IL; grandchildren Blake and Alec Peterson; and sister, Joyce Cary of Washington.

Kerry made his career as a Crane Operator with Arcelor Mittal for many years. He loved drag racing, motor sports, and building motorcycles. Kerry was an excellent mechanic and always willing to help out those in need. He will be fondly remembered as a caring man with a kind and generous heart, who loved his family more than anything.

GRIFFITH, IN - Virginia "Susie" Ann (Metz) Heusing, 80, died at home on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born February 10, 1939, in Chicago Heights, IL, the daughter of Charles R. "Dick", and Lucille E.H. (Rice) Metz.
Virginia graduated from Momence Community High School in 1956 and went on to attend Business College in Kankakee, Il. Following college, she worked for Mortell's Department Store as a secretary. Virginia went on to work for the First Baptist Church of Momence for more than 12 years, and, after moving to Griffith, IN, worked for almost 20 years as a legal secretary in the banking department of Chapman and Cutler in downtown Chicago.
Virginia married Richard Heusing of Grant Park, IL in December of 1959 in Momence, IL. She and her husband Richard have been longstanding members of The First United Methodist Church of Griffith, IN and have enjoyed opportunities to serve close to home as well as throughout the states.
Predeceased by her parents, Lucy (Rice) Metz, and Charles Richard "Dick" Metz, Virginia is survived by her husband of sixty years, Richard; her children, Cynthia Heusing and David Kistenbroker, Thomas and Tina (Lemasters) Heusing, Carrie (Heusing) and Ben Liskey; her thirteen grandchildren: Hillary (Kistenbroker) and Kyle Colonna, Allison Kistenbroker, Charlotte Kistenbroker, Graham Kistenbroker, Nicholas Heusing and fiance Hannah Beddingfield, Isabella Heusing, Timothy Thompson, Jack Liskey, Lucy Liskey, Tate Liskey, and Liam Liskey; one brother, Jack Metz; two sisters, Mary Kay (Metz) Gray, and Dorothy (Metz) and Mike Suris; many treasured nieces and nephews; and beloved cousin Barbara (Rice) and David Greenburg.

PORTER COUNTY, IN - Donald B. Rippe, 68 of Porter County, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart. He was born on August 18, 1951, the son of Albert and Lillian Ruth (Jeffries) Rippe. Don graduated from Wheeler High School in 1969, proudly served in the United States Army, and belonged to the Teamsters Local #142. He enjoyed watching the Cubs, Bears, and NASCAR, but the light of his life was his family, especially his grandkids. Don will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who put his family before all else. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
On November 17, 1973, Don married the love of his life, Donna Hamilton, who survives, along with their two children: Melissa Rippe, Douglas (Rachel) Rippe; six grandchildren: Sydney, Avery, Tatum, Charlotte, Myla, and Kaylin Rippe; siblings: Judy Lute, James Marvin (Sue) Rippe, Dennis (Barb) Rippe, Carol (Mike) Keever, David Rippe, Kenneth (Evelyn) Rippe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Eugene and Richard Rippe; and sisters: Ellen Rippe and Evelyn Garrison.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 PM at MOELLER FUNERAL HOME, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a funeral service to begin at 6:00 PM. Cremation to follow, with a private burial of ashes at a later date.
VALPARAISO, IN - Mary "Jane" Oakwood, 77, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019. She was born December 25, 1941 in Trimountain, MI to Stanley and Sylvia (Stephens) Combellack, graduated from Houghton High School and received her R.N. from St. Joseph Hospital in Hancock, MI. Jane practiced as a Registered Nurse early in her career before focusing on her family. On June 29, 1963 she married Thomas Oakwood who survives along with their children, Deborah (George) Sherwood of LaPorte NS Brian Thomas Oakwood of Findlay, Ohio, her sister, Judith (Dale) Kesler of Dallas, TX and grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Sherwood and Allyssa Nicole Sherwood.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at MOELLER FUNERAL HOME, Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso, Pastor Dee Miller and Rev. Kevin Miller officiating with burial at Angelcrest Cemetery to precede the service. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso.
HAMMOND, IN - Ramona Ramirez, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico, and resident of Hammond, IN, passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 5, 2019 of natural causes at the age of 98.
Ramona was preceded in death by Geronimo Ramirez her husband, Ana Luz Ramirez her daughter, Luis Alfredo Ramirez her son, and Chris Ramirez her grandson. Ramona is survived by her children Jorge Luis (Connie) Ramirez, Carmen (Eladio) Ramirez, Georgina (Angel) Ramirez, Felix (Maria Elena) Ramirez, Mary (Israel 1950-2017) Ramirez, Joe (Lisa) Ramirez, Johnny (Mary) Ramirez, Michael (Diana) Ramirez, Susie Ramirez, Lulu (Johnny) Perez, Tommy (Roberta) Ramirez, Stevie Ramirez Lopez, Toni (Edwin) Giboyeaux, Elaine (Oscar) Martinez, Daniel (Arcilia) Ramirez, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchild, and extended family Mary Beth Herr and John Herr III. Ramona was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1920, in Moca, Puerto Rico, to Gregoria Roman and Domingo Soto. It was in Moca where she met her husband Geronimo Ramirez and fell in love, then married in 1944. In 1950, they moved their lives to East Chicago with their three children in hopes to create a better life. Together they raised seventeen loving children. Ramona dedicated her life to her husband and family. She was a devout Catholic, and was rarely found without a rosary in her hand. She loved to sew, especially for her family, and no one could leave her sight until their bellies were full. Her love moved mountains.
Her wake service will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at BURNS-KISH FUNERAL HOME, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN. A viewing will follow on Friday, November 8, 2019, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Ave., Hammond, IN, with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Please join us as we celebrate her many wonderful years of life, full of pure love and devotion to Jesus Christ.
SCHERERVILLE, IN - Patricia Wrona (nee O'Rourke), born November 7, 1948, of Schererville, passed away October 31, 2019.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Allan Wrona; daughter Tracy (Zack Villagomez) Wrona; sisters: Peggy (Joe) Burcham and Denise (Mark) Goeringer; brothers: David and Tom O'Rourke; step-mother Elaine O'Rourke; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and life-long friend Diane Voglund.Patricia was preceded in death by her mother Juanita Mae O'Rourke, father John O'Rourke and brother Alan O'Rourke.
Patricia worked at Franciscian Alliance of Dyer, IN for 43 years as a Radiologic Technologist performing mammograms.
