VALPARAISO, IN - Doris 'Evelyn' Miller, 86 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on July 20, 1931 in Columbia, TN to Malcolm and Jane Gray. Evelyn was a member of the Northwest Indiana Deaf Club, and enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and taking care of her beloved grandchildren. She will be remembered as a compassionate, loving, and nurturing woman with a kind soul. She was everyone's Grandma Miller and was famous for the nut roll she so lovingly made. Evelyn will be dearly missed.
On August 16, 1952 Evelyn married Stephen M. Miller, who preceded her in death in 2013, after a remarkable 61 year journey together. She is survived by their children: Debbie (Dominic) Pampalone of Valparaiso, Audrey Mital of Naperville, IL, Steve Miller of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Jennifer (Brian) Dainton, Amber (Mark) De St. Jean, Bradley (Melissa) Mital, Melissa Mital, Nina (Dan) Tushinski, Matt (Meike) Pampalone; great grandchildren: Meredith, Paige, Mia, Nate, Kate, Ainslie, Carsten, Matthias, Chloe; sisters, Mary Craft and Betty Gray; along with her loving sister in law, Mary Szmutko of Indianapolis; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings.
