ZEPHYRHILLS, FL - Rudy K. Briede, of Zephyrhills, FL formerly of Northwest Indiana, passed away May 31, 2018; just turning 90 years old with his wife, Peggy by his side. He was born May 29, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Karl and Marie (Gissa) Briede. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Peggy) of Zephyrhills, FL, children: Karen Briede, Janette (Jim) Geresy of Crown Point, IN, Nancy (John) Cordova of Hobart, IN, Robert (Jennifer) Briede of Alexandria, VA; stepchildren: Tom Bradley and Kay Bradley; grandchildren: Candi (Jerry) Reiling, Sarah (Adam) Snuffer, John (Ashlie) Cordova III, Benjamin, Elijah and Isabella Briede; great grandchildren: Logan, Landon and Adelina Cordova and Issak, Jayden and Easton Snuffer, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Karl Briede and two brothers; Eugene and Richard Briede.

Rudy served his country on board Minesweepers in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1947. He used his GI Bill to learn the art of watchmaking and his first job as a watchmaker was at Sears. Rudy retired with the rank of Detective from the Gary Police Department, while working there, he worked security for Anderson Company, Sears and Wise Way Grocery Stores. In his later years, he worked and retired from the Rockville Correction Center.

He moved to Rockville and purchased a grocery and bait shop; Rudy's Superette and was the owner of Sandcut Junction Tavern in Sandcut, IN. He was a member of the FOP and the American Legion Post 289. Rudy was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and an adventurous traveler. He was also an avid fisherman, loved karaoke, his club house jam sessions and watching sky divers at the Zephyrhills Airport.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at CALUMET PARK CEMETERY, 2305 W. 73rd Ave., Merrillville, IN 46410. Friends and Family are invited to gather at CALUMET PARK FUNERAL CHAPEL (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville) on Saturday, at 10:45 a.m.; so that we may process together to the cemetery for services.
