VALPARAISO | The owners of a Valparaiso hair salon are hoping to help the area's unemployed offering people who are out of work a free haircut and some help finding a job.
Kelli and Jesse Hall, owners of Absolute Style, will give free haircuts from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 12.
"Can you imagine not having a job at the holidays?" asked Jesse Hall, who works at U.S. Steel, but helps his wife, Kelli, manage the salon.
The Halls have two objectives: to lift the spirits of the unemployed, and perhaps help them find work.
"If you get your hair cut, it feels really good," Jesse Hall said. "We have an upscale salon, it's not a cheap place to go. But if we can treat them to something, they can feel a little better."
But the Halls want to provide a chance to help get back to work. They are asking anyone who comes in for a free haircut to bring a resume, which they will post online.
"We have a website and are members of the chamber. We network with a lot of people. Maybe we can find someone a job."
The Halls are asking anyone out of work who would like a haircut for themselves or their children to call and make an appointment for that afternoon.
They are also inviting any stylist that would like to help in their effort to call and volunteer their help.
