CHESTERTON — “Jump into Kindergarten” is a new summer program for students who will be entering kindergarten this fall at the Duneland Family YMCA. This class will take place 8 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays, June 6 to Aug. 12. (No class will take place July 4.) “Jump into Kindergarten” will help children transition into the elementary school world.

“Preschoolers are very open to learning new things. Quality programs like the Duneland Y’s Preschool and ‘Jump Into Kindergarten’ can pave the way for a lifetime of learning,” said Lead Teacher Cathie Lakatos. “My goal is to help preschoolers enter kindergarten with the knowledge and confidence they need to become excellent students and community members.” Each week the curriculum will focus on number and letter/letter sound recognition, handwriting and journaling, sight words, basic math, science, geography and social and emotional skills. Movement and physical activities, and music and crafts are also included.

Registration is also open for the Half Day Preschool and Half Day Pre-Kindergarten. Half Day Preschool is for children ages 3-5.
