The Northwest Indiana Green Party is planning peace rallies this Saturday and next.

The Northwest Indiana Green Party will hold peace rallies this Saturday and June 9.

On Saturday, the Voices for Peace rally will be held noon to 2 p.m. on the north side of the Porter County Courthouse lawn in downtown Valparaiso.

Featured speakers include George Wolfe, the Green Party’s secretary of state candidate; Nick Egnatz, with Veterans for Peace; Dave Turpin, of Anti-War Committees in Solidarity with the Struggles for Self-Determination; and John D. Williams, Gary chapter president of the Philip Randolph Institute.

On June 9, the sister rally will be noon to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Park in Highland.

Featured speakers that day include Wolf; Matthew Paskash, founding member of Anti-War Committes in Solidarity with the Struggles for Self-Determination; and Eatka Kamal, of Progressive Democrats of America Calumet Region.

“One of the top 10 tenets of the Green Party is peace and nonviolence as approaches to conflict,” said Sue Brown, of Valparaiso, a Green Party member and one of the organizers of the peace rallies.
