PORTER — A Lafayette man drowned Saturday at the Indiana Dunes State Park.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lt. Tom Torsell said John Kevin Trout Lank, 29, was swimming with a group of people just before 8 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a wave. Lank reportedly fell down and never got back up again, said Torsell, adding a wave brought him back to shore.

Torsell said Lank was transported to Porter Regional Hospital and placed on life support until Sunday. The cause of death was drowning and alcohol was involved, said Torsell.

In addition to the DNR, the Porter County Sheriff’s Department, Porter Fire Department and lifeguards at the Indiana Dunes State Park assisted.
