PORTAGE — The City Council unanimously approved joining the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission recently.
Cal Bellamy said by approving the interlocal agreement, the city will join 22 other communities in Northwest Indiana on the commission.
The commission provides ethics training for city employees. Three Portage employees will receive training through the commission. In turn, those employees will train other city personnel. Training will also be available for department superintendents and members of city boards and commissions.
The city also will appoint a resident to serve on the commission and appoint an official to represent the city on the commission's Joint Board of Delegates.
The cost to join the commission is a one-time $5,000 enrollment fee and $1,800 annual fee.
Bellamy said the funds are used for training purposes and supplies.
