VALPARAISO | The mother of a 10-year-old boy has filed a lawsuit against the Midwest Center for Youth and Families in Kouts, accusing the center of allowing other children allegedly to sexually abuse her son.

The alleged abuse took place between Nov. 30, 2007, and Sept. 11, 2008, when the boy was 8 years old, according to the suit filed by Peggy Loser, of Tippecanoe County.

The lawsuit accuses the facility of negligence, claiming it failed to properly supervise the boy, left the boy unsupervised with children who had a history of inappropriate sexual behavior and failed to properly respond to complaints about inappropriate activity involving the boy.

The boy was admitted to the facility due to a history of aggressive behavior and had no history of inappropriate sexual behavior, the suit states.

Officials at the Midwest Center for Youth and Families did not return a telephone call Monday seeking comment.

The suit claims the boy suffered physical and mental injuries, and faces medical expenses as a result. The boy's mother is seeking an unspecified amount of money.
