UNION TOWNSHIP — Porter County police are investigating two attempted home break-ins reported on Wednesday.

Police were called to a home in the 300 North block of County Road 625 West about 8:30 a.m. The homeowner told police he discovered a door to his home had been left open and a screen door had been damaged. Police said evidence appears to show that someone tried kicking in a door, but did not get inside. Nothing was reported missing.

A resident of the 700 West block of County Road 600 North told police someone removed a screen and then broke a basement window to gain entry. The homeowner told police it appeared the burglar rummaged through a dresser, but nothing was taken. He told police he believes he interrupted the burglary when he returned home about 5:30 p.m.
