UPDATE: Woman charged in shooting death of Lake Eliza man

LAKE ELIZA — A woman has been charged in the shooting death of a 54-year-old man.

Karen Anne Sons, 55, of Hebron, was arrested on initial charges of murder, according to a news release from Porter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Jamie Erow.

The victim has been identified at Robert Head, 54.

Police responded about 2:30 p.m. Sunday to a home at 14 California Ave. on a welfare call and discovered Head's body.

The cause of death was a single gunshot wound, said Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.

Investigators worked throughout the afternoon Sunday and all through the night speaking to neighbors. The only other occupant of the residence where Head lived and was found dead was Sons, Erow said.

Sons is being held without bond at Porter County Jail on initial charges of murder. A forensic autopsy was conducted Monday morning at Porter Regional Hospital on Head. This investigation is ongoing.
