GARY — City officials are the final stretch of preparation for the 2016 Gary Air Show.

The city’s popular Air Show event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9 and 10 in Marquette Park, 1 N. Grand Blvd., according to a city news release.

The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights are among the featured sky performers. This year’s title sponsor is Majestic Star Casino, while other major sponsors include Boeing and Centier Bank, according to the release.

Other attractions include aerobatic teams such as the Aerostars and the internationally renowned Firebirds, according to the event’s website. Dave Dacy, a wingwalker, also will perform.

The Gary Air Show, which first launched in 2000 and has drawn hundreds of thousands of attendees, is becoming one of the largest destination events in Northwest Indiana.

Visitors are advised not to bring coolers, barbecue grills, alcohol or weapons into the park.

Admission is free, but $40 parking is available inside Marquette Park. Parking is $20 for other locations near the parking, including Dunes Bowl, 5600 Melton Road, and Fortune House, 6021 Melton Road.

People with disabilities can park for $20 at Marquette School, 6401 Hemlock Ave. Towing will be strictly enforced in residential areas and “no parking” zones.

Free shuttle service and bike parking also will be available. Attendees also may take the South Shore train to Miller Station.
