Man wearing marijuana hat robs bank, police say; suspect at large

HAMMOND — A man with a marijuana leaf on his hat, sunglasses and a cross necklace robbed a Hammond bank Friday afternoon, police said.

At 4:30 p.m. Hammond police responded to a bank robbery at First Midwest Bank in the 5500 block of Hohman Avenue, Lt. Steven Kellogg said.

A man entered the bank and implied that he had a gun, witnesses told police. The man left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Surveillance images show the man is white and wore a white t-shirt, black pants, sunglasses, a cross necklace and a black hat with a green marijuana leaf embroidered on the front along with the word, “Kush!” The man appears to have brown hair and facial hair and has a thin-build.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the man or has information about the robbery to call Hammond Police Detective Sgt. Joe Munoz at 219-852-2906.

Recent arrests booked into Lake County Jail
