The Lake Superior Court announced a vacancy for a Superior Court judge come January and will be accepting applications for the position.

The Judicial Nominating Commission will be accepting applications starting Friday and ending at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5. The announcement follows the announcement that Judge Jesse Villalpando will not be seeking retention.

The vacancy is on the Lake Superior Court's County Court Division, Room 4, that sits in Hammond, according to the commission.

The commission said eligible applicants should reside in Lake County, be a citizen of the United States and admitted to practice law in Indiana.

The commission said application materials will be available Friday at http://courts.in.gov/5464.htm and applications will be accepted online through the Indiana Courts Portal at http://portal.courts.in.gov.

The commission asked interested individuals to get applications in early to avoid issues in navigating the Indiana Courts Portal.

The commission will interview applicants Dec. 3 and if necessary Dec. 4. The interviews will be open to the public at the Lake County Government Center, 2293 N. Main Street in Crown Point, in the Commissioners Hearing Room in Building A on the third floor.
