Since moving to the region in April 2014, I’ve been wondering what the majority of residents think about collaboration between local governments and quality of life.

What do residents see as the top priority issues? How important do they value public transportation? And how do they feel about Northwest Indiana as a place to live overall?

We’re going to find out about all of this and more on Thursday when One Region releases the findings of a Nielson-Harris opinion survey of residents in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

We hope you’re planning to come to the One Region luncheon at the Radisson Hotel in Merrillville, where key survey findings will be announced. If you can’t make it you can follow live on Periscope.

Once the luncheon ends, around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the full results will be available for viewing and downloading at www.nwi.com. And we’ll present a special report in Friday’s editions of The Times.

You’ll want to share these findings with friends, because the people will have spoken.

At The Times Media Co. we’re as interested in these results as anyone. While we have amazing analytics to know what people are reading online at any given time, we don’t know what readers are spending time on in print.

We’re looking forward to the process that follows these survey findings, as the region identifies priorities. We can increase coverage of what’s most important to residents.

It’s a great opportunity for Northwest Indiana, starting with a comprehensive survey of residents in three counties. One Region leaders deserve applause for getting us here.

Hope to see you Thursday. To reserve your seat for the luncheon, contact Linda Kollada at (219) 933-3300 or lkollada@oneregionnwi.org. More information can be found at www.oneregionnwi.org.

Vietnam veterans honored

“They Served with Honor” kicks off today as a weekly series through November featuring a Vietnam veteran in the region.

This is the 50th anniversary of the start of the war, and it’s a great time to visit with some who served.

These stories will run on Sundays, and we’ll feature a special “They Served with Honor” presentation on Veterans Day in The Times.

Read the first story with Lou Stanko of Portage on Page A14 today. If you’re a Vietnam veteran and would like to share your story, please contact Doug Ross at doug.ross@nwi.com or Joyce Russell at joyce.russell@nwi.com. Thank you for your service.

Thanks for reading us. Please contact me with any questions about The Times or our many publications.
