MUNSTER — A father and two small children were struck by a car driving at a high rate of speed while they were taking a walk around 7 p.m. Saturday in a neighborhood just south of Stewart Park, police said.
Munster Lt. Ed Strbjak said the vehicle was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed before hitting the family near Camelia Drive and White Oak Avenue.
The father, an 18-month-old female and 5-year-old male were struck and a stroller was thrown, according to police.
Strbjak said the 18-month-old had a massive head injury, and the 5-year-old also had head injuries. The two children were transported to an area hospital. The father and children’s conditions are unknown.
The Munster Police Department is investigating the crash, where debris and police tape stretch a distance in the neighborhood.
The Munster Fire Department assisted the Munster Police Department during the incident.
