CROWN POINT — A Crown Point teen was arrested after he allegedly punched a man in the face who was attempting to detain another male he saw breaking into his vehicle.
At 1 a.m. Friday officers responded to reports of two people breaking into vehicles in the 11300 block of Vermont Street in Crown Point, Crown Point Assistant Chief of Police Jim Janda said.Â
When officers arrived, they saw a man holding another male on the ground. The man told police he initially had caught one of the males who he saw allegedly breaking into his vehicle.
He said while he was holding one of the suspects down, another suspect, described as a 16-year-old Crown Point boy, came back and allegedly punched the resident in the face, police said. The resident lost his grip on the first suspect and then chased down the 16-year-old who punched him.
The teen was detained until officers arrived and took him into custody where he is being held at the Lake County Juvenile Center.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with battery and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, police said.
