George Jakes was reported missing to Merrillville police. 

MERRILLVILLE — A silver alert has been issued for a missing, endangered man.

George J. Jakes, 61, was last seen at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the area of U.S. 30 and Broadway in Merrillville.

Jakes has recently suffered a stroke and is on several medications, the Merrillville Police Department said.

Jakes' fiancee reported him as missing to the Merrillville police. Jakes is white, 6 feet tall, weighs 300 lbs and has brown hair and blue eyes, Merrillville police said.

He was last seen driving a green 2015 Kia Sportage sports utility vehicle with Illinois plates reading, “S830770.” Jakes used to live in Elgin, Illinois and he could be on his way to that area, police said.

Anyone with information on the man's whereabouts should call Det. M. Vasel of the Merrillville Police Department at 219-769-3722, ext. 363.
