Turning the page of a new calendar shows 2015 is underway.
So is Kia Motors America as they fast-forward their Sorento crossover utility vehicle into the 2016 model year.
The midsize 2016 Kia Sorento steps into the New Year with a contemporary appearance that highlights Sorento Base L, LX, EX SX and SX-Limited models with choice of three engines in front- or all-wheel drivetrains.
Leading Sorento’s refreshed look is an edgy front fascia dominated by a “tiger-nose” grille and swept back headlights punctuated by unique LED positioning lights and fog lamp pockets.
Sorento’s profile stamps a dramatic deep set accent across its doors that direct to newly-styled LED tail lamps and a sculpted rear end.
The 2016 Kia Sorento comes with standard two-row five-passenger seating. An optional third row accommodates two additional riders.
Sorento’s cabin surrounds 5-7 occupants in soft touch surfaces with plush seats that can handle a crosstown or cross-country trip. An optional panoramic sunroof gives three rows of riders a spacious upward view.
Instrumentation and center stack controls are straight forward and easy to operate. Heated and ventilated front seats and a heated second row cushions are featured in mid- to up-level Sorento models. So is a heated steering wheel.
New available driver aid technology including vehicle stability management, forward collision warning, smart cruise control, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and Surround View Monitor makes the daily commute a more reassured driving experience.
Out back, cargo space abounds with 11 cubic-feet of carrying capacity behind the 50/50-split third row. Lowering the rear seat opens the cargo volume to 39 cu-ft. Placing the 40/20/40-split middle row and back seat flat creates a maximum 74 cu-ft. of cargo volume.
Access to the 2016 Sorento cargo bay is made simple and safer with an available Smart Power programmable liftgate operation that automatically opens the rear hatch with the close proximity and key fob. Unlike the competition, no wave of the operator’s foot under the bumper is required.
Power to the 2016 Kia Sorento is supplied by a base 2.4-liter four-cylinder that delivers 185 horsepower for an estimated 20 miles per gallon/city and 26 mpg/highway. The new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder delivers 240 hp and an estimated 27 mpg on the highway.
A 3.3L V-6 generates 290 hp and achieves 18-city/25-hwy mpg. All engines are coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Considering the power supremacy and close matching fuel economy, the V-6 engine becomes the best choice to move the 4243 pound 2016 Kia Sorento with all-wheel drive to maximize its 5000 lb. towing capacity.
The 2016 Kia Sorento is built in America at Kia’s manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, and is on sale now for a starting price of $24,900.
