CHICAGO — A woman who drives for FedEx has become the first African American chosen to sit on the jury in the murder trial of a white Chicago police officer charged in the shooting death of black teenager Laquan McDonald.
The woman was one of two people selected Wednesday to sit on the jury in the trial of Officer Jason Van Dyke and brings to seven the number of jurors selected. A white man was also selected.
During questioning, the woman said she'd seen the video of the shooting but the man said he hadn't. The woman said that she believes she could be fair but acknowledged that when she first heard about the shooting she thought that the 16 shots that Van Dyke fired were "a lot of shots."
