COLUMBUS, Ind. — A man accused of shooting at police after a chase in southern Indiana has been captured.

Indiana State Police say the man was shot, but his condition wasn't immediately known. Sgt. Stephen Wheeles says the man exchanged gunfire with a SWAT team.

The incident began around 4:20 a.m. Saturday when the driver of a Toyota Camry refused to stop in Columbus in Bartholomew County. The driver took off but then abandoned his car near a water treatment facility and fired shots.

Columbus police Sgt. Josh McCrary was injured by a gunshot or some type of debris. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The Garden City Church of Christ opened its kitchen to officers and offered breakfast during the manhunt.
