LAPORTE — A teen attempted to rob a popular seafood franchise with a knife Tuesday, police say.

On Tuesday, police were called to an attempted robbery at Long John Silver's, 602 J St., in LaPorte, Capt. Bill Degnegaard said.

The teen didn't make away with any cash, an employee told police, and they fled the fast food chain. A detective saw a juvenile matching the description given by an employee walking away from the restaurant. Within five minutes, police detained the teen and found the knife they allegedly used in a nearby yard.

The teen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center without incident and the knife was collected for evidence, police said. Authorities did not release the teen's identity because the suspect is a minor.
