Though you hear lots of talk about 10-day detox, paleo diet and other cleansing programs as Spring approaches, April is Bacon Month.

Annual Bacon Bacchanal Preview Coming Up: Baconfest Chicago 2015 will be on April 17 and 18, 2015 at the UIC Forum (725 West Roosevelt). That event, which has been going since 2009, attracts hundreds of chefs, restaurants, vendors and foodies creating and serving the best in bacon for a general admission ticket of $100. So far there are three session scheduled---Friday and Saturday dinner and Saturday lunch---but if demand exceeds capacity there is a possibility that a fourth session could be added for Sunday.

As a preamble to April's Bacon Month, Chicago chefs and foodies will rally next Saturday, March 28th, at 1 pm when Baconfest Chicago hosts a Volunteer Day at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, 4100 West Ann Lurie Place in Chicago 60632. Volunteers will help organize healthy meal kits for underprivileged families and will get the chance to win two VIP tickets to Baconfest. The event starts at 1pm and volunteers must be be pre-registered because the space is limited at the food bank.

The Official Baconfest Bio says: “Founded in 2009, Baconfest Chicago is one of the most anticipated foodie events in Chicago, attracting a sold-out crowd of nearly 5,000 people over two days. The fest features over 170 restaurants and award-winning chefs, each serving a creative bacon dish. Luxury brands, artisan bacon-makers, and bacontrepreneurs display, sample, and sell a multitude of bacon products. Mixologists and brewers sample bacon-inspired cocktails, beer and wine. To celebrate special achievement in the bacon arts, Baconfest created the Golden Rasher Awards ("the Oscars® of the bacon world"). In addition to hosting a food drive and raffle at the event, Baconfest Chicago donates a portion of proceeds from ticket sales to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Since 2009, Baconfest has donated more than $200,000 to Chicago's food bank, which translates into more than 650,000 meals for hungry people in the area.” Find out more at baconfestchicago.com
