Summer may be wrapping up and the back-to-school season has already begun, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy some of the best festivals and fairs Northwest Indiana has to offer.

AUG. 5-6 Dyer Corn Fest, 5-10 p.m. Friday, 4-10 p.m. Saturday, Northgate Park, Calumet Ave., Dyer. 219.865.1045. This annual festival returns with two days of bands, food, kids’ fun, crafters, a beer garden and, of course, corn.

Through AUG. 14 Lake County Fair, Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. 219.663.3617. With fun for the entire family, this annual county fair boasts rides, concessions, horse shows, contests, live entertainment and more.

AUG. 7 Turkeypalooza 2016, noon-7 p.m., Central Park Plaza, Valparaiso. 219.531.7777, ext. 105. The fun-filled, family-friendly event returns with live music, including a performance by Sevenglory, food, games and a kids zone. Proceeds will help feed 1,000 families for Thanksgiving.

AUG. 9 Back to School Celebration, 1-6 p.m., Whiting Lakefront Park, 119th and Front Street, Whiting. 219.659.7700. Families can celebrate going back to school with this fun-filled day featuring music, face painting, balloon making, concessions, bounce houses, interactive kid activities, train rides, vendors, an extreme euro bungie attraction and Dave Dinaso’s Traveling World of Reptile Shows.

AUG. 12 St. John Corn Roast, Community Outpatient Centre, 9660 Wicker Ave., St. John. 219.365.4686. This annual event brings the community together with a corn roast, entertainment, games and vendors.

AUG. 12-13 Glow Fest, 8-10 p.m., Taltree Arboretum & Gardens, 450 W. 100 N., Valparaiso. 219.462.0025. This after-dark, two-day event focuses on all things glowing with art, food and glow activities for the whole family.

AUG. 13 Beatles Fest XI, 2-11 p.m., Hohman Avenue and Russell Street, Hammond. Each year this tribute to The Beatles grows even bigger with live music, a beer garden, food tents, a kids’ stage and more.

AUG. 13-14 WHAM Ride, 9-11:30 p.m. registration; midnight ride begins, The Pavilion at Wolf Lake Memorial Park, 2324 Calumet Ave., Hammond. 219.937.7942. Bring your two-wheelers, tricycles or unicycles and enjoy an all-night ride through Hammond, Whiting, Munster and Highland’s beautiful neighborhood bike paths and city streets.

AUG. 19-SEPT. 3 Harriet the Spy, Chicago Street Theatre, 154 W. Chicago St., Valparaiso. 219.464.1636. A favorite children’s book comes to life on stage to tell the story of an 11-year-old aspiring writer named Harriet M. Welsch, whose journal of mean observations about her peers falls into the wrong hands and mayhem ensues.
