I fully agree with Lindsey Lloyd's column about American leadership. "America First," yes, but in a world where American business and diplomatic interests circle the globe, that means being first to invest in global economic and social development.
Not everone in power agrees, but thus far Congress has stepped up by rejecting unwise cuts in international development assistance, including rejection of cuts that been proposed for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and other global health programs. Keeping up these commitments would, as recent Navy recruitment advertisements say, keep America a global force for good.
