I believe the state taking over Gary schools is a good decision.
Prior to 2009, the Gary schools were already financially troubled. Since 2009, the Gary public school system has lost half of its students to charter schools, totaling $40 million in reduced annual revenue for the school corporation. Two reasons I support the state’s decision are the Gary School Board is over $101 million in debt with no valid plan to pay it back, and the board is not spending taxpayer money wisely.
I encourage people to reach out to the Gary School Board and Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and let them know you support the state’s takeover and ask the board to repay the $101 million debt.
