Formula One has rejected Andretti Global's application to join the global racing series in 2025 or 2026 but says it is willing to revisit the issue in 2028 when General Motors has an engine ready for competition. Governing body FIA in July approved Michael Andretti's application to expand the grid by two cars for his new team, but F1 took six months to do its own review. The FIA had given F1 a Wednesday deadline to make its decision. F1 is only interested in allowing Andretti in when GM has an engine built for competition. Had Andretti received approval for a new team, he would have had to use another manufacturer's engine until 2028.

The Russia figure skating team still stands to get bronze medals from the 2022 Beijing Olympics despite the disqualification of Kamila Valieva in a doping case. The International Skating Union has published an updated result. The United States has moved into the gold medal position and Japan has been upgraded to silver from bronze. But the demoted Russians get bronze by one point ahead of Canada. The ISU's amended standings from the Beijing competition strips Valieva's maximum 10 points from each of her two events but does not add a point to the other teams below her.

Scott Hamilton will commemorate the 40th anniversary of his figure skating gold medal at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics next month when he reunites with the other members of the podium for an event to raise money for cancer research. That includes Canadian silver medalist Brian Orser and bronze medalist Jozef Sabovcik of Czechoslovakia. The event is Feb. 16 at Glide at Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York. Others involved in the event include Nathan Chen, who captured gold for the U.S. at the 2022 Beijing Games, and Olympic figure skater Mariah Bell.

Fans storming the court after big wins in college basketball and the safety risks associated with that have received more scrutiny in the week since Iowa star Caitlin Clark collided with an Ohio State fan after the Buckeyes' upset of the Hawkeyes in Columbus. There have been at least six more instances since the Clark incident on Jan. 21 and ESPN analyst Jay Bilas on Saturday called for an end to the tradition. Bilas wrote in a text message to The Associated Press that court storming will continue but that it is inevitable someone will get hurt.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates won their fifth U.S. figure skating title in the ice dance despite an illness that began to set in two days earlier when they performed their rhythm dance. Chock and Bates scored 215.92 points after their free skate to easily outpace Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko for their third consecutive gold medal. Carreira and Ponomarenko had the top score in the free skate to finish with 210.04 points, while Emily Bratti and Ian Somerville leaped over Caroline Green and Michael Parsons to take the bronze medal.

Nejc GradiĊĦar scored in the 26th minute of his international debut following an American giveaway, and Slovenia extended the United States' winless streak against European opponents to six with a 1-0 victory in an exhibition between nations missing top players. Twenty-four players made international debuts on Saturday, including 13 Slovenians. Seven of the 11 American debutants were starters, tying the Americans' most since modern records began in 1990. All Americans were from Major League Soccer for a match not on a FIFA international date. Europe-based players return when the U.S. faces Jamaica on March 21 in a CONCACAF Nations League semifinal.
