The drivers of two semitrailers escaped injury early Tuesday after one sideswiped the other while it was parked on a shoulder along Interstate 94, police said.
A 30-year-old Michigan man parked a 2005 Freightliner on an outer shoulder of westbound I-94, about 1.5 miles east of the Ind. 49 exit, about 2:15 a.m. to check on his trailer, Indiana State Police said.
Before the Michigan man could get out, his semitrailer was sideswiped by a 2019 Freightliner driven by a 55-year-old Canadian man, police said.
The impact caused both trailers to rip open, scattering empty shampoo bottles and cardboard box debris across the right and middle lanes.
Both lanes were closed until 4:45 a.m. for cleanup, police said.
