The RailCats signed outfielder Ronnie Mitchell on Friday.
Also, the team placed right-hander pitcher Brendan Jenkins on the Seven-Day Disabled List retroactive to Wednesday.
A native of Southlake, Texas, Mitchell played in the Astros and Marlins minor league organizations since 2013. In 2016, Mitchell began the season with the Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston's Double-A affiliate), hitting .121 (4-for-33) with four runs, a homer, four RBIs, and two walks before signing a minor league free agent contract with Miami. Between the Jupiter Hammerheads (Hi-A) and Jacksonville Suns (Double-A), Mitchell hit a combined .300 with a .375 on-base percentage, 31 runs, 14 doubles, five home runs, 22 RBIs, 24 walks and three stolen bases in 66 games.
Jenkins signed his first professional baseball contract with Gary, following his redshirt-senior season at the University of San Francisco on June 16 and was 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA in relief appearances.
