Shiltz throws 4 TDs, leads Butler past VU

Matt Shiltz threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead Butler to a 42-21 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday.

Shiltz was 19 of 30 for 187 yards passing with scoring strikes of 13 and 5 yards, and touchdown runs of 1 and 12 yards. Jordan Massey and Isaak Newhouse had interception returns for touchdowns for Butler (5-4, 3-3 Pioneer League).

Ryan Clarke had one touchdown pass and ran for another to lead Valparaiso (2-7, 1-5), which has lost four straight.

Clarke threw a 26-yard score to Griffin Norberg, and then ran in from the 5-yard line to pull the Crusaders to 21-14 at halftime. Shiltz threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Zack Wolfe before Newhouse and Massey each had a pick-6 from the 14-yard line to make it 42-14.

Jake Hutson ran for a 5-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter for the Crusaders.

Truman State 10, St. Joseph's 3: Two fourth-quarter turnovers proved costly to St. Joseph's as it fell 10-3 to Truman State in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game in Kirksville, Mo.

Trailing 7-3, the Pumas (5-5, 3-4) took over on their own 12-yard line. A completed pass resulted in a fumble on the next play from scrimmage and the Bulldogs took over. They later kicked 21-yard field goal.

The Pumas marched to Truman 15, but the Bulldogs forced another fumble and took over with 2:28 left. The Pumas got the ball back with 28 seconds left, but came up empty on the final drive.

Pumas quarterback Wade Burtron threw for 233 yards on 34-of-43 passing. He also ran for 51 yards. Joel Wimbley finished with 12 tackles, including two sacks. Gavin Voss (Wheeler) accounted for the Pumas' score with a c41-yard field goal with 4:40 left in the third quarter.

Northern Iowa 59, Indiana State 13: Aaron Bailey rushed for a career-best four touchdowns and threw for another in Northern Iowa's win..

Robert Tonyan Jr. had three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown for Indiana State (4-5, 2-4).

No. 3 Clemson 23, No. 17 Florida State 13: Deshaun Watson threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Deon Cain, Wayne Gallman came through with a game-sealing score and Clemson held off Florida State and Dalvin Cook to wrap up the Atlantic Coast Conference's Atlantic Division.

No. 12 Oklahoma State 49, No. 5 TCU 29: Mason Rudolph threw for 352 yards and a career-high five touchdowns, and the Cowboys upset the Horned Frogs.

No. 11 Florida 9, Vanderbilt 7: Austin Hardin made a 43-yard field goal with 2:22 left and Florida beat Vanderbilt to wrap up a spot in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

No. 16 Michigan 49, Rutgers 16: Jake Rudock threw for two touchdowns and a career-high 337 yards and ran for a score and a 2-point conversion to lead Michigan past Rutgers.

No. 18 Houston 33, Cincinnati 30: Houston overcame Gunner Kiel's 523 yards passing, forcing four straight incompletions on the final drive to preserve a victory and remain unbeaten.

Greg Ward Jr. led scoring drives after two of three Cincinnati turnovers, finishing 16 of 24 for 161 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Arkansas 53, No. 19 Mississippi 52, OT: Brandon Allen threw his sixth touchdown pass and then ran for a two-point conversion to lead Arkansas to an improbable overtime victory over Mississippi.

No. 21 Northwestern 23, Penn State 21: Jack Mitchell's 35-yard field goal with nine seconds left gave the Wildcats a win over the Nittany Lions.

Backup quarterback Zack Oliver passed for one touchdown and ran for another, and Justin Jackson rushed for 186 yards for Northwestern. Mitchell had missed an extra point and a pair of field goals, but recovered to give the Wildcats a dramatic victory.
