Xavier Fulton's Breakdown

* What we do well: We attack. We attack from all spots. Our corners are maniacs. Our safeties hit like linemen. We're aggressive at every position on both sides of the ball.

* What we need to work on: Besides discipline? Nothing.

* Opponent we can't wait to play: Lincoln-Way East. They have, pretty much, a bunch of short, fat guys who run around -- and they were somehow beating us up (last year). It's unbelievable. I still don't understand how they beat us. It was probably just discipline.

Our Breakdown

* With 20 of 22 projected starters going into their senior seasons, and the other two returning with game experience, the Vikings are poised for a big season. It's still somewhat of a mystery why Tony Lombardi skipped town for Hinsdale Central during the offseason, but Tom Bailey is the benefactor. The former long-time Vikings assistant and head coach is planning big things in Flossmoor. He has a defensive tackle -- Xavier Fulton -- drawing recruiting interest from Big Ten schools and a mobile quarterback (junior Freddie Barnes) who blossomed over the summer. With a better grasp of Bailey's pass-crazy offense, Barnes and the Vikings should light up the scoreboard. Defensively, Fulton, linebacker Derek Carnes, safety Bill Spieth and nose tackle Brandon Balkcom could give opposing coaches fits. Look for a playoff trip for the Vikes, along with a race for the SICA Blue title with Thornton.
