Big picture: Times No. 9 Morton upended Clark 46-0 to claim the Great Lakes Athletic Conference outright. The Governors—who have won six consecutive games — own nine outright conference championships in the past 11 years, including two straight under third-year head coach Sean Kinsey.
Turning point: Morton failed to convert an early fourth-down try that gave Clark the ball in the red zone only for the Pioneers to fail to score. The home team never got anything going offensively from that point and couldn’t slow the Governor attack.
Morton player of the game: Senior running back Eric Johnson took 25 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Like he has been all season, he served as the Governors' anchor on offense and routinely pounded the ball for large gains up the middle.
Clark player of the game: Junior Fortune Woods rushed for 35 yards on nine carries and also hauled in Clark’s lone pass attempt for 11 yards. He also made a few tackles for loss.
Quote: “I like that we played well today,” Kinsey said. “I think this and winning the conference gives us momentum going into the playoffs.”
Beyond the box score: Senior tight end Brian Dumas’s 34-yard touchdown reception on a screen from junior quarterback Credell Prather was the first of his career.
