SATURDAY'S ILLINOIS PREP ROUNDUP: Beecher's Nykaza wins Loyola cross country race

Beecher boys cross country runner Grant Nykaza dominated the field Saturday at the 40th annual Sean Earl Loyola University Invitational on the lakefront.

Nykaza won in 15 minutes, 23 seconds -- 23 seconds better than second-place finisher Joe Singleton of Glenbard South.

Illiana Christian's Tony Wondaal was 15th (16:25) and the Vikings were 10th overall. Teammate Jordan Dekker (16:49) was 33rd.

Pat Savage Invitational: Marian Catholic's Camren Howard was 10th overall (17:05) and the Spartans took eighth place in the Red Division with 188 points.

St. Viator won with 38 points and the Mather's Deivi Tahiraj was the overall winner in 15:42.

Girls Cross Country

Loyola Lakefront Invitational: Illiana Christian's Alexa Beezhold was seventh overall (19:17) and the Vikings were seventh as a team (196 points).

Lauren Brink was 23rd (19:55) and Kristen Brink 25th (20:04).

Pat Savage Invitational: Marian Catholic's top runner was Caitlin Henry at 54th overall (21:31).

The Spartans were 15th in the team standings with 443 points. Northside College Prep won with 75 points.

Girls Volleyball

Moline Tournament: Kassie Wallace had six aces, 123 kills and 12 digs in five matches to lead Homewood-Flossmoor to the team title.

The Vikings beat Geneseo 25-20, 25-14 for the title. They also beat Morton (Ill.) twice, Moline and Dunlap.

Kaitlyn Shereyk had 58 kills and 26 digs, while Katherine Whited had five kills and 20 digs. Kandace Tate had 24 digs.

Tinley Park Invitational: Illiana Christian was second, losing to Oak Lawn 25-21, 25-22 in the championship.

The Vikings were 3-0 in pool play as they defeated Bremen 25-10, 26-24, Evergreen Park 25-8, 25-15 and Reavis 25-13, 23-25, 16-14.

Kylie VanRoekel and Rachel Herrera both made the all-tournament team.

VanRoekel had 21 kills and 19 blocks; Herrera 34 digs.

St. Francis de Sales 25-25, Washington 13-15: The Pioneers (6-3) beat the Patriots (0-10) in two games to win the East Side rivalry.

St. Francis de Sales' Amber Malkowski had five aces, 12 digs and seven kills, while Stephanie Galan had two aces, 15 assists, three kills and 14 digs. Bianca Garcia added two aces and 14 digs.

Boys Soccer

Kettle Moraine (Wis.) Lutheran 2, Illinois Lutheran 1: Eric Dorn scored and Justin Clayton assisted as the Chargers fell to 12-8-0.

Football

Stagg 37, Thornridge 28: The Falcons (0-6, 0-4) came close, but fell to the Chargers in a SouthWest Suburban Blue contest.

Roosevelt 55, St. Francis de Sales 14: The Pioneers (1-4) fell to the Panthers (2-5) in Gary.
