West Side basketball player Dash Shaw was named the District 1 girls recipient of the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week award.

Shaw averaged 29 points and nine steals over two games for the Cougars. She scored 27 points with eight steals against T.F. North then followed with 31 points and 10 steals against Hobart. West Side won both games.

Earning nominations from the Region were: DeAndre Gholston (21st Century), Donta’ Long (Lake Station), Brandon Newman (Valparaiso), Austin Peterson (Chesterton), Nick Rensberger (Westview), Talia Bee (Morgan Township), Nia Hurt (E.C. Central), Emma Nolan (Marquette Catholic), Riley Ott (LaPorte), Madi Pfister (Boone Grove), Amanda Schreiber (Hanover Central) and Daijah Smith (Lighthouse).

Girls Basketball

Portage 85, Griffith 31: Alexis Switzer scored 14 points for the Indians in the nonconference matchup.

Portage took an early lead with a 28-6 advantage after the first quarter.

Jaedyn Lowe chipped in 10 points for the Indians.
