Jaclyn Klimczak won the 100-yard butterfly (58.11 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (58.03) Saturday, leading Chesterton's girls swimming team to the Homestead Invitational title.

The Trojans defeated Northridge 555-489 for the crown.

Jaclyn Klimczak was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.45).

Klimczak's sister, Maisyn, won the 500 free (5:04.87).

Lauryn Kallay was second in the 200 free (1:55.54).

Penn 105, Lake Central 81: Michaela Spears won twice for the Indians with a winning time of a 2:13.38 in the 200 IM and a 1:01.29 in the 100 back.

Griffith Invitational: Lowell won nine events as the Red Devils rolled up 174 1/2 points to win the invite. Kankakee Valley was second with 80 and Wheeler was third with 76.

Anabel Stein (100 fly), Rayanne Janota (200 free), Morgan Blank (500 free), Angie Fisher (100 free), Chloe Otis (100 back) and Beth Vaught (200 IM) were individual winners for Lowell. Stein, Blank, Fisher and Otis all also swam legs of two winning relays. Carly Weller swam legs of three first-place relays.

Morganne Marrs (50 free) and Laura Wong (100 breast) won for the Bearcats. Kayla Musch took first in diving for the Kougars.

Boys swimming

Homestead Invitational: Andrew Alders won the 100 fly (51.94) and 500 free (4:41.82) to help Chesterton win the title.

The Trojans defeated the hosts 654.5-546 for the crown. Chesterton also won the combined title with 1,210 points.

Alders also teamed with Justin Wallar, Nick Hanas and Ethan Wing to win the 400 free relay (3:31.18). Alders was also second in the 200 IM (1:55.38).

Teammate Nate Carlson was second in the 100 breast (1:01.53). Wing was second in the 100 free (48.19).

Penn 122, Lake Central 63: Jack Tinsley recorded the lone win for the Indians clocking in at 4:56.83 in the 500 free.


Jim Nicholson Charger Invitational: Wheeler's Giovanni Diaz (106 pounds), Jose Diaz (113) and Trey Buehler (170) won titles with 5-0 marks.

The Bearcats placed seventh with 214 points. Penn won the title with 424.

Bradley Groover (182) won for River Forest, which finished eighth (169).

Boys basketball

Lafayette Jeff 62, Highland 49: Tyler Scheidt had 13 points for the Trojans.

Isaac Sytsma and Alex Pulleyblank each added 10.

Lowell 46, West Side 45: Dustin Hudak's 3-pointer with 3 seconds left was the difference. Hudak finished with 18 for the Red Devils.

Girls basketball

Bishop Noll 74, Griffith 38: Coach Vanita Golston picked her 100th career win with the Warriors.

Laila Rogers led the way with 18 points. Courtney Blakely and Rose Fuentes each had 15.

Ariel Esquivel led the Panthers with 16 points. Sierra Slaven added 10.

Boone Grove 67, North Newton 25: Kate Pfister scored 18 points and had three steals as Times No. 8 Boone Grove remained unblemished on the season. Rachel Wilkening added a double-double for the Wolves (11-0) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Madi Pfister had nine points and five assists.

Morgan Township 63, Kouts 37: Sahara Bee had game highs of 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cherokees (7-3, 2-1) over the Fillies (4-7, 1-3) in Porter County Conference play.

Talia Bee added 13 points for Morgan Township.

Morgan Kobza had 12 points for Kouts, while Sadie Leatherman had 11.

Valparaiso 62, Whiting 37: Ari Gerdt scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Vikings over the Oilers.

Maddie Molnar added 14 points, while fellow sophomore Aleah Ferngren had 13 for Valparaiso.

Abby Toth had 12 for Whiting, while Emily Balcazar added 10.

Westville game canceled: The game between Westville and Elkhart Christian was canceled. No make-up date was announced.
