Brent Wireman dished out a school-record 16 assists adding nine points, seven rebounds and five steals Tuesday as Kouts rolled past West Central 107-47 in the Mustangs' season opener.

Jake Stewart had 23 points to to lead Kouts. Cole Wireman had 20 points and Dillan Matthes scored 17. Zac Nomanson added 15 points and eight boards.

Illiana Christian 56, St. Anne 50: Daniel Chandler scored 16 points to lead the Vikings (2-0) to a win at the Seneca Thanksgiving tournament. Josh Harris added 13 points.

Girls basketball

Chesterton 76, Morton 49: Hailey Vale poured in 25 points to lead the Trojans (5-0) in the win. Teammate Courtney Krol added 16 points, knocking down three 3-pointers.

ShanEttine Butler and Dariel Woods each had 15 to lead the Governors (3-2).

Munster 71, Clark 17: Grace Helmer and Aleena Mongerie had 12 points apiece for the Mustangs (4-2) in the blowout victory. Holly Kaim added 11 points

Boone Grove 48, Lake Station 43: Rachel Wilkening had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Wolves (7-0). Mackenzie Cantwell added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Taylor Austin led the Eagles (3-2) and all scorers with 24 points. Bridget Collins had 12 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

LaCrosse 52, Hobart 33: Allison McCormick posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Tigers (4-3). Claire Garwood added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Paige Nestich had seven points, five rebounds and four steals for the Brickies (0-4).


Class 4A state finals tickets on sale Friday: Advance sales tickets to Saturday's Class 4A state championship football game will be on sale at Lowell High School Friday.

Tickets are $15 each and will be on sale in the Spirit Shack from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday.

Boys swimming

Lowell 123, Griffith 42: Ethan Krucina won the 50 and 500 free and Brenden Kinnis won the 200 IM and 100 fly for the Red Devils. They both also swam legs of the first-place 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.

Rory Browne won the 200 free and was also on the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Girls swimming

Chesterton 153, Merrillville 33: Chesterton sophomore diver Antonia Frech accumulated a score of 268.1 for her six dives breaking the previous school record of 263.55 held by Natalie Dewitt back in 1994.

Lexi Nash picked up a win in the 100 free for the Trojans. Lauren Unruh won the 200 IM and the 500 free. Carey Rose-Tharp (200 free), Abbie Koster (100 breast) and Carly Sparacio (50 free) added wins. Alexis Orange, Nash, Koster and Tharp also swam legs of two victorious relays.

Lake Central 134, Portage 52: Savanna Spears took first in the 100 breast and 100 free for Lake Central, also swimming on the victorious 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.

Teammate Michaela Spears added wins in the 200 free and 100 fly and was on the winning 200 and 400 free relays. Adisyn Sawaska won the 100 back and 200 IM and swam a leg of the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Lowell 142, Griffith 34: Morgan Blank won the 200 free for Lowell and was on the winning 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relay teams. Teammate Anabel Stein was first in the 50 free and swam on the 200 free and 200 medley relays.
