Saylem Smith tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts Wednesday and was also 3-for-3 with four RBIs, leading Hobart to a 11-0 five-inning softball win over Lake Station.

Brooke Niksich was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored. Emily Zanolla was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hannah Camarena scored three runs.

Crown Point 4, Lowell 2: Anna Holloway was 3-for-4 with a double and triple for the Bulldogs.

Teammate Madi Elish added a double and she tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts. Caitlyn Phillips was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Maggie Ballentine was 2-for-4.

Gaby Malave was 2-for-4 with a double for the Red Devils. Haley Penman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Hailey Boylan added a double.

Lake Central 14, Highland 2, 6 inn: Olivia Peterson was 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Indians (22-3) over the Trojans.

Teammate Jenna Towle was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Selena Michko was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Rylee Platusi and Alexis Johnson each scored two runs.

LaPorte 5, Munster 4: Sophie Sorg was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Slicers over the Mustangs.

Megan Reed was 2-for-4. Avery Wolfenbarger went the distance with six strikeouts.

Marquette Catholic 5, LaCrosse 0: Summer Johnson had a home run to lead the Blazers over the Tigers.

Washington Twp. 5, Wheeler 1: Hailey Ruesch had a triple and two RBIs to help the Senators defeat the Bearcats.

Katelyn Majda went the distance with four strikeouts.

Shelby Klimczak scored Wheeler's lone run and Hailie Minard had an RBI.

Andrean 7, Bishop Noll 0: Mike Doolin was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI for the 59ers.

Joe Rycerz was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Teammate Matt Lelito was 2-for-3 with a double. Tyler Nelson also had two hits.

Merrillville 5, Valparaiso 4: Israel Woods went the distance with six strikeouts and he added two hits in the Duneland Athletic Conference win for the Pirates. 

Ryan Vendl was 3-for-4 with a double and triple for the Vikings.

Girls track

Kankakee Valley Sectional: Morgan Township swept the relays en route to the program's first sectional team title Tuesday.

Gracie Abbett (1,600 meters) and Emily Rastovski (high jump) were individual-event winners for the Cherokees, who won the team crown with 113.5 points.

The host Kougars were second with 101.5 points. Catherine Cavinder won the 800.

Kouts placed fourth with 75.5 points. Kennedi Steinberg won the 100 and 200. Audrey Benefield won the 400. Emma Tharp was first in the pole vault, while Sydnee Hill won the long jump.

Allison Hano of Hebron won the 100 hurdles.

Girls tennis

Crown Point Sectional: Ana Maksimovich won 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to lead the host Bulldogs over Lowell 5-0 in the opening round.

Crown Point's No. 2 doubles team of Caroline Johnson and Erica Green also won 6-0, 6-0.

Hannah Wiesemann led Kankakee Valley to a 5-0 win over Rensselaer with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.

C.P. plays Hanover Central in one semifinal at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, while K.V. and Lake Central meet in the other semifinal. Championship will take place after the semifinals.

LaPorte Sectional: Tally Wolf (No. 2 singles) and Allison Varda (No 3) won their matches 6-0, 6-0 to lead the host Slicers over Marquette Catholic 3-2.

Marquette's Rose Pastoret remained alive in the postseason with 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

LaPorte will play the New Prairie-Michigan City winner Thursday for the championship.
