After coming to Chicago for three straight years in January, the Ultimate Fighting Championship decided it was time to experience the Windy City in the summer.

Or, perhaps more accurately, its fans decided. As part of a promotion with sponsor Harley-Davidson, fans voted in the "Hometown Throwdown" for which city they wanted to see host a UFC event.

That choice, the promotion recently announced, was Chicago. UFC on FOX 16 will take place at the United Center on July 25. No fights have yet been announced for the card. Information on ticket sales will be announced in the coming weeks.

The UFC most recently came to Chicago a year ago for UFC on FOX 10 on the weekend in between the NFL's conference championship games and the Super Bowl. That marked the third straight year for a UFC on FOX event on that weekend after events in 2013 and 2012.

Prior to those three FOX-broadcast events, the UFC's only Chicagoland visit for was the UFC 90 pay-per-view in October 2008 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

The first two UFC events at United Center drew in excess of 16,000 fans. But UFC on FOX 10 a year ago drew just short of 11,000 to the venue.

Lamas headlines UFC Fight Night 63 in Virginia: Oak Brook resident Ricardo Lamas, who a little less than a year ago challenged for the UFC's featherweight title, will return to the spotlight in April.

Lamas (15-3, 6-1 UFC) will take on two-time title challenger Chad Mendes (16-2, 7-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 63 on April 4. The event will take place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., just outside Washington, D.C.

Lamas has won back-to-back fights since losing his title shot against champion Jose Aldo at UFC 169 this past February. In November in Mexico, he submitted Dennis Bermudez in the first round. Mendes will be fighting for the first time since his second crack at Aldo, which resulted in a unanimous decision loss in October.

UFC Fight Night 63 will have a main card broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 – but at a special time starting at noon Central.

HFC 23 returns to Valparaiso on Feb. 7: As a reminder, Hoosier Fight Club returns Feb. 7 to Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso for HFC 23.

Dustin Pape (5-1), of the Duneland Vale Tudo camp in Hobart, meets Kenneth Glenn (5-2) in the main event. The co-feature sees Kevin Nowaczyk (16-3) a veteran of the UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter," against UFC and Bellator veteran Ryan Thomas (18-8).

In addition, for just the second time, HFC will have a belt on the line as Asef Askar meets Kyle Van Camp for the 145-pound amateur title.

Tickets for the event are $35 for general admission and $65 for VIP seats and are on sale now by calling 219-309-1861, or through localmmatickets.com.
